Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

I have seen a wonderful film called Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End million times. This trilogy is my favourite. At World's End is the third film in the series. It's an adventure film, starring Johnny Depp, Keira Knighteley, Orlando Bloom and other talented actors.
The screenplay is incredible. Captain Barbossa, Elizabeth Swan and her fiance  Will Turner are going to save Captain Jack Sparrow from Davy Jones's Locker. They face a lot of difficulties made by their enemies like Lord Beckett owner of the East India Trading Company and Davy Jones (Bill Nighy)  who is in Lord's Beckett's control. It's not a typical film with estimated plot. So you can't assume what is going to be in the next scene. This film is permeated with mysteries, secrets, lies and cheating.
Johnny Depp has the main part. His acting is amazing. I can't even describe how talented he is. In my opinion he approached the role of saucy pirate who lies, cheats, fights just perfect.
We can't say that he is a hero who has only good qualities and ready to sacrifice himself for other people or in the name of good. No! It's a part of Will Turner. Bloom presents such hero who wants to save his dad, but also he understands that he can lose his love.

And Captain Jack Sparrow at first thinks about his own benefit, but eventually he shows us a great nobility, and the ability to put people's interests above his own. Besides Johnny Depp, I liked Keira Knightley, Naomie Harris (Tia Dalma) and Geoffey Rush (Captain Barbossa).
Also I'd like to pay attention that the special effects were unbelievably amazing. Especially the final battle. I can't but mention two great ships The Black Pearl and The Flying Dutchman, and terrifying face of Davy Jones and all his subordinates. By the way Depp's stunts and fights as Knightley's and Bloom's fencing are breathtaking.
In spite of the opinion that the second part was a bit better, this film is full of action and really exciting. Johnny Depp's acting makes this film not so serious and brings positive moments and humor in it.
I really enjoyed it and recommend to watch.

Illnesses and Their Treatment.

It is known that heath is very important and necessary thing for everybody. We should remember that health is not only the absence of illnesses but it is physical, social and mental welfare. It influences not only our physical state but mood, our relations with people. When person is healthy he is opened for society, he is full of forces, he can do everything. But unfortunately nowadays to be healthy is very difficult because there are a lot of viruses around us.
There are a lot of diseases nowadays. One kind of them is light indisposition. They are a headache, stomachache, nausea, slight cough, chill. These diseases are accompanied by a weakness, a breach of capacity for work, sleepiness. There are also infectious diseases. They are evoked by bacteria, viruses which surround us everywhere. There are infectious diseases which people have at once, such as chicken pox, and diseases which can influence people several times, like flue, diphtheria, dysentery, quinsy, cholera, typhoid fever.
By the way, I can't but mention such serious and horrible diseases as cancer and AIDS. I should tell that 50 years ago the number of people suffering from these diseases were less than now. But fortunately there are a lot of specialists in modern medicine who can help us in case of need.
Also I'd like to say that nowadays every second person suffers from headache, allergy, bronchitis, rheumatism. Besides, incidence of heart attack has increased lately. Air pollution and very bad ecology situation in the world caused the appearance of new diseases and other health problems.
Not only our ecology should be blamed. The problem of obesity rises up today. One of the reasons causes this problem is eating  harmful, high-calorie food. Whom should we blame now? I guess - only ourselves. But there was one situation in 2002 when several obese teenagers in the USA sued McDonald's claiming that the company was responsible for making them fat and had not warned about health problems that can result from eating hight-fat food: diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity. But McDonald's rejected the claim that they were responsible for teenager's health problems. And in my opinion it's right because everybody knows about how harmful and unhealthy McDonald's food are. And if people choose to eat a lot of that food, they can't blame the company for their health problems. As an evidence that McDonald's food is harmful Morgan Spurlock made a film "Super Size Me" in 2004. It is a documentary film based on his own experiment to eat only fast food three times a day, every day, for thirty days. This experiment ended with different health problems and overweight. It took Spurlock 15 months to recover from it and return his original weight.
So it is clear that we should care about our health, we should visit a doctor regularly and lead a healthy lifestyle. I wish you to be healthy.

Meals

Well, as I have never been abroad so I'd like to tell about our native food and dishes.  Since old time Ukrainian national cooking has been famous for great variety of tasty and useful dishes. Lets begin with the fact that usually we eat three times a day. Of cause somebody may prefer British traditions and have a five o'clock tea, but I base on my experience. Usually we start our day with breakfast. In various families it may be eaten in different time, I mean 7 or 8  o'clock in the morning. And breakfast consists of tea, coffee or milk, may be some boiled or fried eggs, porridge, sandviches, bread, butter and fruits. Somebody avoids breakfast at all. As a matter of fact I used to do it myself, but my grandma always says: "Breakfast is the main deal of a day!" So usually I have a cup of tea, boiled eggs, bread and butter. Those who are on a diet only drink yoghurt for breakfast.

Then we have lunch nearly 1 p.m. Well to be honest sometimes I don't have time for it and can eat something at the cafe or buy some croissants or biscuit at the shop. But lunch must be substantial and include meat, vegetables, fish etc. The best lunch consists of three dishes. Soup, potatoes, rice, beef, pork, veal, fish and poultry - you can choose what ever you want. Soups are very popular in Ukraine. And you can find a lot of them in Ukrainian cuisine. The most popular of them are yushka, (fish soup), chicken broth, noodle soup, pea soup, mushroom soup and milk soup. All of them are very tasty. But I prefer Ukrainian borshch. It has up to 20 components (potato, tomato, carrot, parsley, cabbage, onion, meat etc). Also there are a lot of dishes cooked from flour like varenyks, pancakes, halushkas and different kinds of pies. After that it's better to drink a cup of tea or juice. Of cause some people may prefer restaurant cuisine, but in my opinion home food much more delicious and healthy.
Dinner time comes nearly 7 o'clock in the evening. Usually the whole family is gathered. Well, I prefer some salad for dinner. But my father, for example, likes some chicken or chops with mashed potatoes.
By the way, nowadays, fast food is very popular all over the world. But, as a matter of fact, it does not have such popularity in Ukraine as Ukrainian women prefer to cook at home. And it's great as the problem of obesity occupies an important place today.

Ideal upbringing and my idea of a happy childhood.

Upbringing affects identity formation, creating prosperous conditions for mental, physical and social person development. It's very important period of time in child's life, but some parents do not understand it and do not pay much attention on it. Modern parents prefer making their career instead of rising children. Very often babysitting or grandparents implements parents role. And it's one of the main problems of todays society when adults do not care about their children!
Parents should spend more time with their children otherwise they begin to move away from each other. Sometimes the child do not trust his or her parents and prefer to believe strangers so it may cause different problems in the future. And very often children replace adult's love by computer games or television. They want to fill that emptiness which appears when parents can't find common language or don't talk at all with the child.
Every child needs to know that somebody loves his or her and always can give a hand in difficult situations, encouraged and understand. I mean that some parents condemn certain proceeds of their children. They even do not want to understand the cause of such behavior and punish them. In my opinion, it is wrong way of upbringing.
In a conclusion I'd like to mention that for me, ideal upbringing is when the child spends more time with both parents and the last ones don't fight and quarrel. As it  affects child's mental health. Ideal upbringing  is when all family  gather for some vacations, travel, help each other in different situations and support each other.

Difficulties Awaiting Young Teachers

Teaching is very hard and responsible profession. It requires good knowledges, great professionalism, courage and of cause desire to help young people to choose right way in their lives. But, I'd like to mention, that it's not well paid job. That's why you have to love it and work not because of money, but because of understanding the fact that teacher can influence students thoughts, can give such lessons which will help them in their further live.
Of cause it's not very easy to start teaching. First of all one faces different problems including great fear speak to students. But, in my opinion, the main  obstacle is to find common language with students. They are often more critical of young teachers than of teachers who have had experience, and have established reputations as being able to teach and to govern. They are looking for signs of weakness. Fortunate is the young teacher who can stand this test. It's very important to show students that you are their friend not an enemy, like some of them perceive all teachers. Good teacher must teach young people to think, to have their own opinion about different situations and to find way out from various difficulties.
So I guess the main problem awaiting young teacher, besides the salary, is finding contact with students. Learn them, their hobbies, life positions. Teacher must understand that his aim is not only to tell the theme of the lesson like the book says, but try to teach students to listen, to estimate, analyze and systematize given knowledges. I suppose that the secret of good teaching is in finding common language and an approach to each student.

What is so special about Valentine's Day?

Every February 14, across the Ukraine and in other places around the world, candy, flowers and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But what is so special on this holiday and why only on this day people who are in love celebrate their love????
The history of Valentine's Day--and the story of its patron saint--is shrouded in mystery. We do know that February has long been celebrated as a month of romance, and that St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. The Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.
Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons, where they were often beaten and tortured. According to one legend, an imprisoned Valentine actually sent the first "valentine" greeting himself after he fell in love with a young girl--possibly his jailor's daughter--who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter signed "From your Valentine," an expression that is still in use today.
Nowadays the 14th of February is a day when loved ones can celebrate their love and those who are alone may be can find their soul mate. Children make valentine cards for their friends.
What can I say it's a great holiday when everybody talks about love, this feeling is in the air and in everyone's heart. I just want to mention that we should show our love not only on the 14th of February but every day! And those who are in love with someone and can't make a confession must master their own fears and say three simply words......I love you!
I want everyone to love and be loved! Wish you to be somebody's valentine!

 My Day
To say the truth it's a little bit hard for me to write about one of my day's.
Why? Actually, I have no idea. May be because of crazy rhythm of life. Each of my day is different from another.
Well, I should mention that I'm a student of the 5th course of RSGU, the speciality of the fine arts. And also I study at the First Kyiv courses of foreign languages. Besides, I entered RSGU last summer to learn English and to get second higher education in this field. Except studing, I work at the supermarket.
That's why it's hard for me to tell about one day as it's unlike other one. But I'll choose one and tell you.
Usually, I get up early in the morning and go to the university in case that I don't need to go to work. Every day I have 3-4 lessons there, and after it's ending I go home. Nearly 4 p.m. I go to the gym. Usually, I have my trainings till 6 p.m. And then I have my lessons at the First Kyiv Courses.
Nearly 8-9 p.m. I go home or sometimes I have night shifts at work.
After work I go to the university again....but it is another day.
So there is one of my ways to spend day.

Letter of Gratitude

Dear Sir/Madam,

By this letter of gratitude I would like to confirm my appreciation to CAMS’s Principle and the group of teachers. They gave me a chance for better life and provided my with good education.

First of all, they gave me knowledge on how to learn. I got used to the strict methods and great deal of material. That is why I could get into college and become a student of Yale University.

Second of all, considering the district our school was situated, it is unbelievable that a lot of graduates can easily go to college. We do not have much money. All we have is our knowledgewe we got from CAMS.

I, as a CAMS graduate, would like to thank this school. It gave me life I dreamt about.

Best regards,

Anna Kyryah

Education in the USA

Formal education in the United States dates from 1635, when the Boston Latin School was founded in colonial New England. Grammar schools were established in the larger cities of each colony throughout the rest of the 18th century, as well as several religious colleges. Formal education for women started with the American Revolution, and for black children with the American Civil War. However, Homeschooling remained predominant, especially in the south, until the mid-19th century (the 1840 census revealed that about 55 percent of children attended some form of primary school).
Government supported, free public schools for all started being established after the revolution, and expanded in the 19th century, as the results of efforts of men like Horace Mann and Booker T. Washington. By 1870, all states had free elementary schools, albeit only in urban centers. As the 20th century drew nearer, states started passing laws to make schooling compulsory, and by 1910, 72 percent of children attended school. Private schools continued to spread during this time, as well as colleges and—in the rural centers—land grant colleges. The year of 1910 also saw the first true high schools.
During the rest of the 20th century, educational efforts centered on reducing the inequality of the schooling system. The landmark Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education made the desegregation of elementary and high schools a national priority, while the Pell Grant program helped poor minorities gain access to college. Special education was made into federal law in 1975.
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 made standardized testing a requirement, and in 1983, a commission was established to evaluate their results and propose a course of action. The resulting No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 was controversial and its goals proved to be unrealistic. A commission established in 2006 evaluated higher education, but its recommendations have yet to be fully implemented.

Food

Today I have researched more information about food. Food is much more than a mere means of subsistence. It is filled with cultural, psychological, emotional, and even religious significance. It defines shared identities and embodies religious and group traditions. In Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries, food served as a class marker. A distinctive court tradition of haute cuisine and elaborate table manners arose, distinguishing the social elite from the hoi polloi. During the 19th centuries, food became a defining symbol of national identity. It is a remarkable fact that many dishes that we associate with particular countries--such as the tomato-based Italian spaghetti sauce or the American hamburger--are 19th or even 20th century century inventions.

The European discovery of the New World represented a momentous turning point in the history of food. Foods previously unknown in Europe and Africa, such as tomatoes, potatoes, corn, yams, cassava, manioc, and a vast variety of beans migrated eastward, while other sources of food, unknown in the Americas--including pigs, sheep, and cattle--moved westward. Sugar, coffee, and chocolate grown in the New World became the basis for the world's first truly multinational consumer-oriented industries.

Until the late 19th century, the history of food in America was a story of fairly distinct regional traditions that stemmed largely from England. The country's earliest English, Scottish, and Irish Protestant migrants tended to cling strongly to older food traditions. Yet the presence of new ingredients, and especially contact among diverse ethnic groups, would eventually encourage experimentation and innovation. Nevertheless, for more than two centuries, English food traditions dominated American cuisine.

Before the Civil War, there were four major food traditions in the United States, each with English roots. These included a New England tradition that associated plain cooking with religious piety. Hostile toward fancy or highly seasoned foods, which they regarded as a form of sensual indulgence, New Englanders adopted an austere diet stressing boiled and baked meats, boiled vegetables, and baked breads and pies. A Southern tradition, with its high seasonings and emphasis on frying and simmering, was an amalgam of African, English, French, Spanish, and Indian foodways. In the middle Atlantic areas influenced by Quakerism, the diet tended to be plain and simple and emphasized boiling, including boiled puddings and dumplings. In frontier areas of the backcountry, the diet included many ingredients that other English used as animal feed, including potatoes, corn, and various greens. The backcountry diet stressed griddle cakes, grits, greens, and pork.

One unique feature of the American diet from an early period was the abundance of meat--and distilled liquor. Abundant and fertile lands allowed settlers to raise corn and feed it to livestock as fodder, and convert much of the rest into whiskey. By the early nineteenth century, adult men were drinking more than 7 gallons of pure alcohol a year.

One of the first major forces for dietary change came from German immigrants, whose distinctive emphasis on beer, marinaded meats, sour flavors, wursts, and pastries was gradually assimilated into the mainstream American diet in the form of barbeque, cole slaw, hot dogs, donuts, and hamburger. The German association of food with celebrations also encouraged other Americans to make meals the centerpiece of holiday festivities.

An even greater engine of change came from industrialization. Beginning in the late nineteenth century, food began to be mass produced, mass marketed, and standardized. Factories processed, preserved, canned, and packaged a wide variety of foods. Processed cereals, which were originally promoted as one of the first health foods, quickly became a defining feature of the American breakfast. During the 1920s, a new industrial technique--freezing--emerged, as did some of the earliest cafeterias and chains of lunch counters and fast food establishments. Increasingly processed and nationally distributed foods began to dominate the nation's diet. Nevertheless, distinct regional and ethnic cuisines persisted.

During the early twentieth century, food became a major cultural battleground. The influx of large numbers of immigrants from Southern and Eastern Europe Progressive Era brought new foods to the United States. Settlement house workers, and food nutritionists, and domestic scientists tried to "Americanize" immigrant diets and teach immigrant wives and mothers "American" ways of cooking and shopping. Meanwhile, muckraking journalists and reformers raised questions about the health, purity, and wholesomeness of food, leading to the passage of the first federal laws banning unsafe food additives and mandating meat inspection.

During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, change in American foodways took place slowly, despite a steady influx of immigrants. Since World War II, and especially since the 1970s, shifts in eating patterns have greatly accelerated. World War II played a key role in making the American diet more cosmopolitan. Overseas service introduced soldiers to a variety of foreign cuisines, while population movements at home exposed to a wider variety of American foodways. The post-war expansion of international trade also made American diets more diverse, making fresh fruits and vegetables available year round.

Today, food tends to play a less distinctive role in defining ethnic or religious identity. Americans, regardless of religion or region, eat bagels, curry, egg rolls, and salsa--and a Thanksgiving turkey. Still, food has become--as it was for European aristocrats--a class marker. For the wealthier segments of the population, dining often involves fine wines and artistically prepared foods made up of expensive ingredients. Expensive dining has been very subject to fads and shifts in taste. Less likely to eat German or even French cuisine, wealthier Americans have become more likely to dine on foods influenced by Asian or Latin American cooking.

Food also has assumed a heightened political significance. The decision to adopt a vegetarian diet or to eat only natural foods has become a conscious way to express resistance to corporate foods. At the same time, the decision to eat particular foods has become a conscious way to assert one's ethnic identity.
Today I have visited the following website - http://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/. I loged in and found very interesting information and videos. I definetly expanded my mind and enriched my vocabulary. I recommend you all to visit it ASAP. It is just great!

Thanksgiving Task

First of all, I would like to thank my teacher of English for giving us such interesting videos on Edmodo! They were really fascinating. I have learned a lot about this special holiday. The most difficult part was watching the movie and understanding it, but I have managed to understand it using a dictionary online and listening to it couple times! Now, I am aware of history of this holiday and the main traditions of its celebration in the USA and Canada.

Solutions to Hunger

The problem of starvation is very serious nowadays. This issue mostly occurs in the developing countries in South America and Africa. The reasons of hunger vary greatly - from the lack of money and resources to drought and policy of the country. This problem has become very urgent starting in the 90s.

I was impressed about the quantity of people who die every day because of starvation. I could not even imagine about that, as I am living in a well off family, comparing to those in Africa or Ghana. We live in a world full of goods and food, while the rest of the world does not have food at all. That is why it is important to think about the solutions to hunger and starvation.

I know that there are a lot of philantrophysts who give money and other forms of support to such people. I worship them, as I would do the same if I had enough money to sustain myself. Those people who have too much should share - that is the main solution. If not we, who will save our brothers and sisters? They are not guilty to be born in such a bad time and in such a location. Should they suffer if they are innocent? I do not think so.

I suggest that all people whose salary exeeds 500 dollars a month give 20 dollars from their salary on the needs of starved people. This would be a great solution to hunger problem in the world.

The Story About my Favourite City

Kyiv is my favourite city.
I have learned that Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, has the population of nearly three million inhabitants and covers over 43 km from east to west and 42 km from north to south.

According to the legend, Kyiv was founded by three brothers — Kyi, Shchek, and Khoryv, — and their sister Lybid. The city was named after Kyi, the eldest brother. The monument erected in their honor stands on the bank of the River Dnipro.

It was very interesting to discover that in the late 6th and early 7th centuries, the first fortification appeared in the northern section of Old Kyiv Hill. While the court of the princes was located on the hills of Kyiv, the lower part of the city, known as Podil, developed into a busy trading district.

With the establishment of Kyivan Rus' (the 9th century), Kyiv became its capital.
Prince Volodymyr the Great (980—1015) expanded the city. Kyivan Rus' was at its zenith under the rule of Prince Yaroslav the Wise (1036—1054). Monasteries were established and developed into centres of education. Close to 400 churches were built, the most famous of which, Saint Sofia's Cathedral (1037), has survived to this day. The first library was founded on the grounds of the Cathedral.

I would like to add that today Kyiv is one of the greatest ancient European cities, rich with the monuments of art and architecture. It is a political, scientific, cultural, sports, and industrial centre of modern Ukraine.

Kyiv is a major industrial centre that includes companies specializing in electronics, engineering, aviation, food, and chemical production, etc. Kyiv's economic development has been enriched by its advantageous location along the Dnipro River, which links Kyiv to the Black Sea.

I like this city, because it is very bright and people are very hospitable. I dream that some day I will move to this city and spend the rest of my life there.

Learning English with IT Tools

To prepare this topic, I have used information from the British Council website, as it was the most appealing to me. It contains a lot of topics for the teachers and tutors, video materials, lessons, vocabulary, etc.

It is the general idea that today learning English is not just only a good grammar knowledge and vocabulary. For foreigners, the most difficult part of learning English is learning to understand, comprehend and express their opinion. Nothing of these activities cannot be learned during an actual class. One needs, at least, to live in the English-speaking environment for couple of years to get used to the language and learn to speak fluent English. As a matter of fact, not all students have such an opportunity. Neverthless, they are very lucky these days, as they have IT tools to help them to become advanced speakers and learners. IT tools, such as webinars, online conferences, online tests and books, video lessons, movies, etc. can give a student anything he or she needs in learning English at home, in front of the computer. The main aim of any teacher then is to teach his or her students to use those online resources while preparing to the class. If they use those tools, English will not be so challenging for them. They will easily integrate in the English-speaking society when they go abroad.

On the one hand, IT tools are very difficult to understand for non-advanced computer users. They can be really confused with all the new information and challenges they face.

On the other hand, if they are persistent in their learning, they will do their best and become advanced users. If they are, they have good chances of succeeding in learning English online.

To conclude, we, as teachers, should encourage our students to use those IT tools in learning and shaping their English.

In the library

"Library is a place where books are stored", most people would say twenty years ago. Since then, a lot has changed. Now we are living in the Informational Society which is developing with a very fast pace. To keep up, one needs to understand that nothing stays the same. The world is constantly changing. More than 2000 years ago, the book was a table with signes. Before the first book was published in Europe in the Middle Ages, a lot of years have passes. Now, a book is not only a printed document. There are electonic books also. That is why the sense of the library is now a little bit different. It is still a place with books and resources, but it can be not only an actual place or building. It can also be a virtual place where all the virtual books and information are stored. So, basically a person can access the library sitting in front of his or her computer.

There are different kinds of virtual libraries. Some of them are accessible to all people, some are closed and one needs to have special access to these data. During our fall session, we had a chance to go on the websites of different online libraries. It was really amazing. I recommend all people forget about the old methods and start looking to our future. The electronic libraries are the reality, and we need to learn how to use them. Also, we need to encourage our students to do the same.

Pastimes

Internet is a very interesting hobby for some people. Some years ago, most people were amused by different kinds of hobbies, like embroidering, sewing, knitting, reading books. Today, people with such kinds of hobbies are very rare. The most popular hobby of all people these days is surfing in Internet. Facebook and Twitter are very popular websites, mostly among youth. They help them to keep in touch with their friends and relatives, keep up with the news that are happening in the world and be closer to each other.

One more hobby I would like to write about is reading. Although people are living a very busy life, they still manage to find time for their favourite books. Now, most of all books are electronic. This is very convinient, as people do not have to spend money on buying books. Anyone can find e-books on Internet. However, some people are still fond of reading paper books. One of my friends is a very passinate reader. I would say she is a real bookworm. She recons that e-book is not actually a real book. She likes the spirit of reading the actual book, the smell of the paper, the fact of having this book in hand. As for me, I do not care if it is an electronic book or an actual one. I can read both without inconviniences.

Watching TV is another hobby that takes over the human life. The television was invented in the 60s, and since than it has spead all over the world and become the most popular hobby among people. Sometimes watching TV can be very useful, as one can learn a lot of new information form TV. Nevertheless, it is an actual fact that TV has a notorious impact on human health and phsychic. People become lazy, out of reality and cannot live in reality anymore. They live their favourite TV characters' lives. That is an enormous problem nowadays.

It needs to be said that travelling still remains one of the favourite hobbies of most people. It is probably connected to the fact that people like challenges and like to change their surroundings. They get bored and tired of life. Travelling helps them to have rest and relax. In my view, it is one of the most useful hobbies, along with going in for sports.

To conclude, IT tools greatly helped me to develop this subject about pastimes. This topic was very interesting for me to research.

Holidays and Food

This topic is very actual, as we have Christmas holidays now. That is why, having analyzed all the information online, I would like to say a few words about this special winter holiday.

English people celebrate Christmas on December 25th each year. They believe that on Christmas Eve the Jesus Christ was born. That is why it is a very special holiday for Christians. The main things people use to decorate their houses are miseltoe, Christmas tree, coloured lights and candles. They also prepare a Christmas dinner, which consists of the following dishes - plum pudding, stuffed turkey, cranberry souce and other dishes. They also really like to listed to Christmas carols.

Another outstanding holiday for Americans and British people is Thanksgiving day. People on this day thank God and each other for everything good they recieved this year. They usually celebrate this holiday in the family circle with a roasted turkey and mashed potatoes.

My favourite English holiday which is, although, not celebrated in Ukraine is Halloween. It is celebrated on October 31st. This is a holiday of scary costumes, masks and parties. People find different spooky costumes. Children also go trick ore treating and recieve candies. People make a lantern of pumpkin and put candels inside. They also dress like witches, ghosts, and other scary creatures. They also cook pumpkin pie and eat a lot of sweets.

The last but not least is the St. Valentines day which is a holiday of love. People can confess their sweethearts that they are madly in love with them or send an anonymous Valentine card.

To conclude, holidays is very good time in every country. I am a big fan of holidays, and this course has greatly helped me to learn more about them.

I have made my blog!

I studied at the library on the 20th of October. And then I made my own blog and found some information about Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland. It's famous for its culture, architecture, and design. Situated on the River Clyde on the country’s west coast, it’s known as Scotland’s style capital – a title reflected in its innovative buildings, stylish shops, cultural centres, more than 30 art galleries and museums and an annual programme of performing arts and festivals. Spectacular Scottish countryside and coastal views are within easy reach and the city is only a short trip of 42 miles from Scotland's capital city of Edinburgh.
View of Glasgow from Queens Park

Glasgow is home to numerous museums and art galleries, offering visitors also plenty of pubs, nightlife and concerts, as well as interesting architecture. Glasgow is a historical city that also offers some of the best shopping in Great Britain, and provides easy access to the many golf courses and sights in the Scottish highlands and nearby islands, making it a perfect urban holiday destination.  Glasgow does not have as impressive historical center as Edinburgh does, but nevertheless it has interesting Victorian and Art Nouveau architecture to admire, especially in the east of the city. The City Chambers built in 1888, the Gothic Glasgow Cathedral and the Glasgow School of Art are among the many significant historical buildings in Glasgow. You can also find a great number of art galleries and museums in Glasgow, most of which are free to visit. Other cultural attractions in Glasgow include an opera, ballet and several theaters. There is also a variety of venues for concerts in Glasgow, as well as music festivals such as the Celtic Connections festival and an annual jazz festival. Shopping in Glasgow is rated the second best in the UK after London, and family attractions such as theme parks and spas are available.
